Boston Bruins draft pick James Hagens responded to rumors of the New York Islanders attempting to trade up for him.

James Hagens, who grew up in Hauppauge, N.Y., was selected by the Bruins with the No. 7 overall pick. Hagens, 18, has played one season of college hockey with Boston College, where he scored 11 goals and notched 26 assists in 37 games.

The Bruins selected Hagens, who grew up an Islanders fan in Hauppauge and attends Boston College, with the seventh overall pick in the NHL Draft on Friday night at the Peacock Theater. He matches Mike Komisarek, who was selected seventh overall by the Canadiens in 2001, as the highest-ever pick from Long Island.
