Jack Draper narrowly missed out on an appearance in the new-look US Open mixed doubles final on Wednesday night.

Draper and American Jessica Pegula went into the event -- played for the first time in the week before the main tournament -- as the top seeds and eased through to the last four on Tuesday, with a run which included beating Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz in the first round.

Raducanu and Alcaraz lost 4-2, 4-2 in the shorter format, but were seen laughing and joking together throughout the contest. That was despite fears the Spaniard would withdraw from the event, having only won his Cincinnati Open final against Jannik Sinner 24 hours earlier.

Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the U.S. Open mixed doubles event, where he was going to partner Katerina Siniakova, a day after illness forced the world number one to retire five games into his Cincinnati Open final.
