The original structure built in 1853, St. Boniface was the first Catholic church within the city of Manitowoc, according to LeCaptain. The current structure was completed in 1885.

The Vatican upheld the closure of St. Boniface parish in Manitowoc. The church held its last service in 2013 and was officially closed in 2023 by Bishop David Ricken.
