TOKYO (Kyodo) -- U.S. President Donald Trump's 25 percent "reciprocal" tariff on imports from Japan, if imposed, is projected to reduce the Asian nation's gross domestic product by 0.8 percent in 2025, according to a private-sector estimate.

One week after announcing the tariffs at a Rose Garden event, Trump offered a 90-day reprieve, lowering duties to 10% to allow time for negotiations. Few nations successfully negotiated deals in the short time given. In the interim, Trump announced framework agreements with the United Kingdom and Vietnam and a trade truce with China.
