The Toronto Blue Jays have been mired in mediocrity for the last few years. Looking to take that next step and become playoff contenders in the American League, they spent a little bit of money this offseason.

Max Scherzer, who hasn't pitched since his Blue Jays debut on March 29 due to thumb inflammation, has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.

In response to their pitching challenges, the Blue Jays announced major-league deals with right-handers Spencer Turnbull and José Ureña. Turnbull has been optioned to the Florida Complex League (FCL) Blue Jays to begin ramping up, while Ureña is expected to join the major league roster immediately.
