Chicago-born Cardinal Robert Prevost has spent much of his time serving in Peru. He was elected the first American pope from the U.S., and took the name Leo XIV.

Prevost, 69, took the name Leo XIV. He grew up in Dolton and attended St. Mary of the Assumption. A childhood friend said maybe now that he's pope, their old church will be reopened.

After multiple votes over two days, Cardinal Robert Prevost, who was raised in Chicago, has been elected as the first-ever American Pope of the Catholic Church.
