The Israeli army escalated airstrikes in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, killing at least 27 more Palestinians, medics said. Four Palestinians, including an infant, were killed when an Israeli aircraft struck a house in Tel al-Hawa neighborhood, southwest of Gaza City, Al-Shifa Hospital said.

Five Israeli soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb attack in Gaza overnight after a second round of ceasefire negotiations in Qatar. An Israeli security official said two explosive devices were detonated against soldiers during an operation in the Beit Hanoun area of northern Gaza, killing five soldiers and injuring 14 more.

The war in Gaza began after Hamas led an attack on Israel in October 2023, killing nearly 1,200 Israelis. Another 250 people were taken hostage, according to Israeli officials. Israel’s subsequent invasion of Gaza has devastated the enclave, and its forces have killed more than 50,000 people, according to the Palestinian health authorities.
